Are REITs the same as buying Real Estate properties?
No. Here are some of the differences.
- The companies that are creating the REITs will buy Real Estate. The REIT-holders will not have ownership of the properties.
- The companies that are creating the REITs are supposed to pay out dividends on a yearly basis (by IRS). So, REIT investments are good for earning constant dividends. But not long-term ownership of the properties.
- Obviously, they are more liquid than Real Estate properties. They can be bought and sold just like stocks.
