REITs

Are REITs the same as buying Real Estate properties?

No. Here are some of the differences.

  1. The companies that are creating the REITs will buy Real Estate. The REIT-holders will not have ownership of the properties.
  2. The companies that are creating the REITs are supposed to pay out dividends on a yearly basis (by IRS). So, REIT investments are good for earning constant dividends. But not long-term ownership of the properties.
  3. Obviously, they are more liquid than Real Estate properties. They can be bought and sold just like stocks.
