Pickup trucks
They’re big, rugged, capable, and tough. Trucks are expensive to purchase and burn a lot of gas but the operating costs are cheap. They’re extremely reliable regardless of brand.
Most people who own pickup trucks don’t need them. In a study conducted by Axios, researchers found that a significant portion of modern pickup truck owners rarely, if never, use their vehicles for hauling, towing, or other typical truck stuff. Instead, they are more likely to be used for shopping, running errands, and commuting.
They are a status symbol for the most part. Pavement queens. The ones which actually are used for work do show a little wear.
Its not like owning a Ferrari. A very small number of very rich people buy Ferraris. Tons of poor, working class and middle-class people pay a lot of money to own big trucks.
So, why do they own pickups then?
Answer based on studies:
- Experts believe that the answer to that question falls on the image that the customer is aiming to project. Personality and imagery play an important role in how consumers choose car/truck they drive.
Here are some opinionated, wild guesses:
- They think they’ll be safer in an accident.
- They like to feel superior to everyone else.
- They just like how it feels to be in a huge-ass car.
- They need them to flex on people.
